In the case of a mass casualty incident (MCI) with many injured individuals, such as a railway accident, medical resources are often required in greater quantities than immediately available on-site. Before patients are treated and transported, they are categorized according to the severity of their injuries. Due to a lack of routine and the high stress and emotional load, this categorization poses significant challenges for emergency responders. Technical systems could support and relieve the rescue teams in their work to ensure an optimal process for patient care.
